I don't know about you guys, but when I'm ready to buy a new gadget or big-ticket item, I research it a LOT. I look at every review I can find, peruse over every specification, and make sure it's the best I can get for the money. And while expert reviewers are good, my favorite is if I can find real people just like you and me who have used the product and see what they have to say about it.

Mega-Microsoftie shows off a FREE 411 service

Talk about starting off with a BOOOOOM!

Mega-Microsoftie Stefan is presenting in front of over 20,000 people Thursday morning and he is asking YOU, the 8ers out there, to decide whether or not he should do it with or without his fresh since his last video beard. Leave a comment to vote!

After some shenanigans, Stefan also demo-ed for us a really cool service based on Microsoft Speech Server and our TellMe acquisition from a bit ago. It's a FREE version of the well known informational 411 service you are used to dialing... all you have to do is call 1-800-CALL-411 and you will get the same affection from "Mary" that Stefan does.

TechNet Virtual Labs: Learn and Play for FREE

I know that many of you have been asking for Information Technology (IT) related demos. So first off, let me point you toward one of our sister sites: TechNet Edge. It is constantly being updated with really great deep dives, demos, and other IT related information. I know it can be daunting sometimes... so I had another chat with Stefan, the Mega-Microsoftie.

He dives int TechNet Virtual labs, a freely available tool that allows you to dynamically provision virtual server instances that you can interact with all within your Internet browser. Why is this cool?? Well you guys want the latest technology? Check. Want to run 6 simultaneous servers including a Domain Controller, Active Directory, Windows Server 2008? Done. Oh and did I mention... again... it's FREE.

Do a search on live.com for "TechNet Virtual Labs" and it will be one of the first results (I would link you but my result is the English-US version).

IE8 WebSlices feature shown off by your favorite Mega-Microsoftie

Stefan the Mega-Microsoftie who showcases "stuff he's got nothing to do with" is back to show off one of his favorite new features coming with IE8 called WebSlices.

He explains how this is similar to RSS but much more customizable and... get this... Stefan CODES for YOU! And, we even left in all his glorious mistakes for authenticity--even "geniuses" make mistakes.

How Office Live Could Make You A Collaboratin' Fool... FREE!

Let's face it... no one actually knows what Stefan really does here. OK, I do know, but on Channel 8, he is the Mega-Microsoftie that shows off the best and the coolest stuff that will actually make you more productive.

And you know it's good stuff since he usually has nothing to do with the product team that made it, yet he's sooooo excited!

So this 3rd installment of "Stefan Demos Stuff he has Nothing to Do With," is all about software and services in the form of Office Live. He showcases workspaces that allow you to collaborate on documents in the cloud so you can reach the 4 corners of the world effortlessly. My favorite part is him showcasing the multiple-person cursors viewable in a shared environment so that you can all collaborate together rather than one at a time.... pretty cool eh?

New Windows Live Maps brings unique 3-D rendering and real images to life

With the new features now available in Windows Live Maps, I thought it would be a great chance to have a chat with your favorite "I love Microsoft stuff I don't really work on" Mega-Microsoftie, Stefan Weitz. Yeah, he's that awesome.

In this heavy-on-demos session you will see a few of the features Live Maps has to offer including our 3D rendering coupled with real photos from Birds Eye--VERY slick stuff. In addition, Stefan goes into the traffic enhancements we have made ranging from the visualization in the 3D world to helping you save time by rerouting you based on heavy traffic.

MSN Videos, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Live Photo Gallery, Writer, and Spaces... DEMO!

You like to take pictures? How about videos? Maybe you’re an avid writer… or even a blogging machine!? Getting all this stuff online today is very doable… and very time consuming.

I knew there were better ways to go about sharing videos, pictures, and my fancy loquacious prose with the world… and Stefan Weitz, Mega-Microsoftie, was the man to show us how to do it. So in this VERY DEMO HEAVY (yay!) sit-down, you will see Stefan show you how to go from digital video camera to online in a blog post with pictures, text, etc. in one of the most simplified methods I have yet to see. How does he do it?? A rich integration between online and local consumer applications that are all actually either part of Windows XP/Vista or freely available at http://get.live.com.

If you ever have wondered what we mean by “Software AND Services,” then this is a great example from the consumer standpoint.
