Hi everyone, we continue showing interviews with students. Why? We want to tell real stories of students around the world, how do they learn, how do they use the technology, what's cool, what's bad, their career expectations and their experiences. Here is Johnny, I met him like 6 years ago, he won an Xbox in a contest in the high school certifying on .NET. From there to be a technology lead in the company that he is working, was pretty fast. Another advantage of being a student or young

Most human communication takes place in a frequency range between 200 and 8,000 hertz (one cycle per second), most adults' ability to hear frequencies higher than that begins to deteriorate in early middle age thru a process called presbycusis. That was used by a security agency that developed a tone that only teenagers could hear, to keep them out of a shopping mall, where they used to hang out pushing customers out of those stores.
Now the tide had change, somebody created a ring tone, based on that frequency, that only younger people can hear, so when there is no permission to use cellphones (ie in class), they use that ringtone.
Looks like there are some benefits of being a student. Do you want to try if you can hear it? Check how you is your hearing... Here is the link
Funny story, I was getting information about this in a friend's house, he has two little kids, (2 and 5), when I played the ringtone the little one start laughing screaming "Loud! Loud!", and his brother said "turn it off, I'm watching TV and cannot hear". I could bearly hear it :)

Stickering and having fun at TechEd

Beside visiting the sessions we have been, during our week at TechEd in Barcelona, promoting Channel 8 under the visitors (MSP’s and students). By using sticker techniques! , television ads and interviews we have tried to get the visitors of TechEd curious to Channel 8.

Further more this video’s shows the fun we had during TechEd. See MSP Pascal for example showing his skills with apples J!

And of course, after 4 days of ‘hard work’ it was time to enjoy the beautiful view from the 14^th floor of the hotel nearby……and , being in Barcelona, taking a superman dive in the swimming pool

As we told you, last week we, as the Dutch MSP team, have been visiting TechEd 2007 in Barcelona.

We experienced a great event with some interesting and cool sessions. One of the speakers that serious got our attention was the one of Rob Miles.

This 'Big Speaker' (2 mtrs) is Microsoft MVP and teaches at the University of Hull <Computer Science> in the UK.

Hear Rob talking about game development, the fun of making games with XNA in C# for PC or Xbox 360, the Imagine Cup, embedded tools and in what car he drivesJ!

Caroline Phillips on students programs and her experience in a men's world

Last week we, as the Dutch MSP team have been visiting TechEd 2007 in Barcelona.

In Barcelona we experienced cool sessions and a great atmosphere. We met a lot of people (speakers, Microsoft employees and other Student Partners),and had between the sessions a lot of fun.

Because we would like to give you an idea of the Event, and share our experiences with you all, we have been taping some of our activities.

One of them was interviewing Caroline Philips, Microsoft Academic Lead for Western Europe!! A very enthusiastic lady from the UK.

Bart de Smet, Tech Ed Speaker Idol in 2006 is back

During Tech Ed, we had the opportunity to talk with Bart De Smet. Bart was a Visual C# MVP, now he works at Microsoft on the WPF dev team as Software Developer Engineer. Prior to this new challenge, Bart was active in the Belgian community on many Microsoft technologies, most of the time focusing on CLR, languages innovation and frameworks. In his role, he's been speaking at various events and attended several international conferences including TechEd Europe, IT Forum and the PDC.

In this interview, he gives us some tricks about how to become a great speaker, how is the Tech Ed experience, life and work in Redmond and his experiences with students & professionals communities.

What?? Yes, you read it right. Jim Newkirk leads a team that created a hosting solution for Open Source code in Microsoft technologies. Is cool enought to have like 2400 projects hosted. There are a lot of them very cool.

Last week we ran a series of events related to Expression in different cities around the world almost simultaneously, everyone was invited and we had Microsoft Student Partners attending the event. Toronto, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Milan, Zurich, Moscow, Auckland, Seoul, Cairo and Bangalore were the cities. We will have a series of videos covering the events. Imagine Cup Channel 8 Challenge winners

During the last Imagine Cup finals in Korea, we gave video cameras to students with a mission.
After hours of videos with amazing interesting stories and lot of fun we have the winners...
Kyrylo Yatsenko, from Ukraine won the first prize, and Sergio Marcin from Mexico the second one. They will enjoy an Xbox 360 Elite and a Video camera for the first prize, and a Zune and a Video Camera for the second
Both will be contacted by their local subsidiary for further details
It was a fun experience based on what they said and they could have a great career as newscasters.

Montecarlo semantics: an interesting approach to natural languages

During the PhD Summer School in Cambridge, Richard Bergmair presented a poster about Montecarlo Semantics, approaches this Fuzzy Semantics concept. He created a natural language database interface capable of matching vague expressions like “a small city near San Francisco” against a relational model. It will outline some ideas behind the us logic as a more adequate model of vagueness in natural language semantics.
