I have two of the Zune30 models and they serve their purposes in my car or on long plane rides, for example... but for everyday out and about use, I much prefer my new smaller, touch pad controlled, shiny red Zune8. Oh and did I mention wireless syncing?? NIIIICE.

Anyway, Cesar Menendez (my favorite Zune Rocker) has shown me how the Zune team has taken music back to its pre-digital roots when people used to gather at record stores and tell each other about the latest and best ways to rock out--or mellow out, depending on your style. It's called the Zune Social and it really is an interesting concept that leverages the back end from the XBox Live infrastructure and allows you to create a profile that displays your songs played, favorites, and friends. From there you can find out what others are listening to, get a taste of it, and share it with others... very cool stuff.

My favorite part is when Cesar sent me a recommendation for a band he likes... it came as a message to my Zune Social section in which I ended up purchasing the album all within 30 seconds.

And to top off the Zune Social with a nice cherry: you can now add it to your FaceBook or MySpace profiles. Cesar shows you how, so check it out and let us know what you think!

<evnet:views>44233</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel8.msdn.com/4048/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
I'll be the first to admit that the first generation Zune was not my favorite digital player... Altering a large project - Part 4 of 4

Update: Fixed video link.

The last and final part in adding in some new functionality into a complex project! I'll be adding in a new control and finally after about an hour of work, I'll finally be able to test out the work I've done. As you'll witness, even the pro's make mistakes and need to debug.

For a side project I've been working on for Coding4Fun, I needed to use the Facebook Developer Toolkit, however it didn't have the Facebook API integrated that I needed in it.

In this 4 part series, you'll see me track down add in the Set Status ability into the toolkit, track down everything needed to add in that functionality, debug, create a test application, and finally getting it working.

<evnet:views>4280</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel8.msdn.com/3735/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Update: Fixed video link.
In this 4 part series, you'll see me track down add in the Set Status ability into the toolkit, track down everything needed to add in that functionality, debug, create a test application, and finally getting it working.</evnet:previewtext><media:group>

</media:group>

<trackback:ping>http://channel8.msdn.com/3733/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Don't get lost! In this part, we'll look at how the Facebook method's we'll need to add in, get the source code, and get an API key.

<evnet:views>4004</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel8.msdn.com/3683/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>For a side project I've been working on for Coding4Fun, I needed to use the Facebook Developer Toolkit, however it didn't have the Facebook API integrated that I needed in it.
Or maybe even Channel 8 ;-)?

I am. And as I read through Facebook’s live news feed about all my “friends,” I realized that as I am catching up on people’s lives around the world, there are many of which I have not spoken to in literally weeks, months, or even years! Yet I know so much about them such as the basics like where they live, what they look like wearing a toga, and what they are doing RIGHT THIS MINUTE!

So riddle me this, 8ers… do you believe that having all these social networking sites have better connected you with your fellow friends local and far, or has it created a curtain for you to hide behind and ironically distanced you from the very people you are reading about?

Bonus: +10 points to whoever can tell me first what percentage stake Microsoft has in Facebook (take a guess without looking it up).

<evnet:views>2822</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel8.msdn.com/1713/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Are you on Facebook? MySpace? Live Spaces? imeem? LinkedIn? Meetup? Friendster? Orkut? Dodgeball? Twitter?
