On a day to day basis there are a few things that I always need with me whenever I go to work or outside into the real world—and World of Warcraft does not count as the real world, Laura Wink

So that got me thinking… what do you guys carry around with you in your backpacks?

Here’s my list:

· Ultimate Frisbee: you never know when you may need to toss it through the hall at your manager… trust me, he loves it when you do that
· Camcorder: hard drive based so I don’t have to mess with tapes, extended battery so I can go days without a recharge, small enough to go where I go so I can get you guys the best stuff wherever I am
· Passport: I admit it, I made a copy using our office copier… don’t tell my manager
· Channel 8 stickers: if you ever see me in public, you’re getting one of these suckers
· Dell XPS 1210 laptop: I’ve had it for a while but gosh darnit it’s the most solid machine I’ve ever had (I put a 3-D Vista sticker on it and people think it’s a Microsoft-made laptop heheh)
· Wallet: enough said
· Keys: technology these days is great, the little gray part lets me into my building which is nice for when the concierge at the front desk falls asleep—although I think he’s just pretending…
· Twix Chocolate Bar: I ate it after I wrote this, it was good
· Sony Headphones: I like those because they came in a simple little case and they sound grrreat
· Red Zune 8: my favorite digital audio device yet… I keep it in the original box case to avoid crushing it in my bag
· Adobe Creative Suite 3: I just got it so it was in my bag when I took this photo
· Western Digital Passport 160 GB: this thing is ESSENTIAL for me since I am always transferring large files like video and screen captures… my laptop hard disk is tiny
· Scratch Pad: for scratches… or padding
· Motorola Q: cell phone, calendar, email… the works all running on a Windows Mobile platform
· Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 2 GB: for quick transfers with others when I don’t feel like pulling out the bigger Passport drive
· USB Smart Card Reader: as part of our security measures, I need a smart card reader to VPN into our corporate network when I am off campus (which is pretty often)… there are internal ones as well but I prefer this because I can use it on any machine
· Business Cards: I mainly hand these out to the ladies… everyone else already knows me… ok I kid, I kid Smiley

Right now I don't owe a backpack Smiley But I have ordered one today! It's finally time to put the notebook in a backpack instead of having one of these weird notebook bags.
I'll take a picture of my stuff later, but...being a student I have a lot of books.

I keep my math book (if only it were a macbook) Calculus Early Transcendentals Volume 2 Wonderful OSU Edition

Chemistry lab manual, lab notebook, random general education class Psychology stuff, and a few technical drawing books for engineering class.

I also have a Zune 80 and a Dell Inspiron 1520 (which I'm not too happy with, because the paint is starting to rub off, it is heavier than I thought and I have a bit of back pain which my doctor attributes to my heavy bookbag, I can't do a thing about that though, I have to have what I have).

That Windows Vista logo on the laptop does look pretty neat though, it caught my eye, I would have never known it was a sticker. I'm stuck with a dell logo hehe.

Very cool question, Max! Here is my list (and photo)

  1. Channel 8, Imagine Cup & Student2Business stickers in different models and colors.

  2. Passport.

  3. Lots of pens (Microsoft, Office, TechEd...), I am specially able to loose them!

  4. Keys with a Windows Vista keyring (a classic for me)

  5. Personal Card (it has to seem like you are an important guy, right? Wink)

  6. External HD Western Digital 260Gb: I love it!

  7. Wallet

  8. Bubble gums

  9. Anti-stress spoungies: I love them!! In the pic, you can see three of them: one 9er, one mouse and the Microsoft Research's rocket! Smile

  10. Microsoft cap and sunglasses Cool

  11. My new videocamera (Panasonic SDR-H250E) to record everything for Channel 8! Smile

  12. Mi notebook: The place where I write down all my thoughts and also poems during the day and night... It doesn't matter when and where you get inspired, right?  Wink

  13. Zune limited series "Hey, Genius!": A cool gift from Microsoft for all interns during last summer in Redmond. J Allard gave them to us after a cool and fun event in the Red West Café. They also made a song for us!! Smile

  14. Qtek 8500 with Windows Mobile: 3rd Prize in the Spanish Imagine Cup Final Round last year.

  15. My machine: My production machine, development machine, entertainment, headquarters... Personalized with several stickers from Channel 8, Channel 9, Zune, Imagine Cup, Student 2 Business...). Do you have a cool sticker and want to advertise your business? I am your perfect commercial-guy! I also have recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate, after using Business version since November '06.

Despite all this stuff, I believe that the most important things we carry when we travel are memories, experiences, friends we make... Smile

Ok you lucky folks. My bag is filled with

- Loose Sheet Papers ( for that quick note needed to implementing a mickey-128 chip in vhdl)

- Nintendo DS with charger ( for some strange reason my ds seems to run out of power quick. Besides i am a gamer and i don't like ported ps2 games on a portable, if i want to play ps2 games i will sit in front of my tv)

- My heavy 17 inch Laptop ( sorry can't afford the small thin laptops with a decent card for my 3d modeling. I don't have a pc at home so i have to by a system that has the best of both worlds .. lol)

- 4gb  scandisk Cruzer. ( partitioned 2 gb for ready boost and 2 gb for personal files, bought it on black friday at CC)

- My Custom Zune 80 with Shure E5c Head phones ( yeah i got it for 50% off at circuit city)

- My iphone ( yep got one of those suckers. but it's a business phone so it's not really mine..hehe)

- 1 pen and 10 mechanical pencils. ( ilove those pencils)

- occasionally a mouse

- ohh and coins lots and lots of coins...... don't know where to put them so i dump them in my bag.

well that is my broke bag..

oh max is it just me or do you hate the dell logo on your machine.

Well, my bag has books, a pencil case and.... a coat in it. I don't take tech to school.

a) Its not allowed
b) People would nick it

-but- here's my more interesting list of stuff I manage to stuff in my pockets:

Wallet (because I can't go anywhere without my card Smiley)
Treo 750 (Calendar, Phone, Messenger, Camera...)
Panasonic Lumix FZ18 (Best camera I've ever owned, some lenses came for it today Big Smile) -but it's an SLR so I take a cruddy Kodak sometimes, which is small.
Keys
Sennheiser CX300's
-soon- a Zune
and when it's sunny: Lacoste shades that I look awesome in. It's unusual for a ginger to look cool in shades, so I thought I'd throw that in.

Too late, they already rejected me, too many spots.

But hey

I look cool in shades

And I'm ginger
