How would you like a free copy of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008? How about the entire Microsoft Expression Studio? Not enough...... how about Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and more?

For once, something that sounds too good to be true really is this good and really is true. Starting today (or soon in some areas), students worldwide will be able to download our professional development and design tools for free! It's called DreamSpark and it is upon us.

We got a few minutes with the guy himself, Mr. Bill Gates, to talk about his thoughts on this student opportunity. We also discussed the fast pace of technology and how students can best deal with that. Finally, I gave him a chance to think about what he would do if he were 17 years old again and starting up the next big company. His answer was--are you sitting down because this one was a real shocker--software!

We figured since one 8er already won a PC and another 8er won a Zune, we should hook you guys up with something cool too... I better see some smiles in the comments! :)

I wonder why Australia is not on the list?

I am now retired from my position at a University and have been developing for many years using MS products. I am enrolled at the University of the Third Age and assist with computer courses - will I be elligible for these downloads?

would be great if the download buttons from Dreamspark worked right, I keep getting errors on all the programs, you can't actually download anything.

Thank you Microsoft.

I am so excited to be able to get my hands on the latest technologies from Microsoft! I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Expression Studio the most! Oh so many great development tools... so little time to develop on them all!

So, I am in high school, when will this be extended to us. However, I understand this is post secondary. I mean, you asked Bill if he was 17 what company he would start and he said software. 17 for the most part, means high schools :/ So when can high school students look forward to getting this?

So Bill said that even high schoolers can get it. JourneyEd didnt let me get it...

How do I get this?

: ) awesome.

I am still waiting for JourneyEd to email the confirmation to me. It took a good half hour to try to negotiate their site. It seemed like it was under an extremly heavy load of traffic. And it's unfortunate that it says your email will be sent within 3 hours. Waiting 3 hours for something this good is worth it, but I am ready to experience the new VS 2008! woot!

This is so awsome. I can't wait to get some software for free. Free is always good, especially since it has server 2003 and server 2008 when it becomes available to MSDN. YEA, baby.

Went thru the JourneyEd site since my college wasn't on the list. Man it was sloooow. They are either getting bombed by requests from students all over the world or they are having some other problems. It took almost an hour to get thru the process of ordering and uploading proof of eligibility - mostly waiting for pages to load.

System isn't a spammer, Plat, it's OUR system automatically logging pingbacks so you can read other blogs talking about this....  this just happens to be a very popular story, so I apologize for the "clutter."
