One WPF developer with a passion for geekery. You'll have to pass our test and be likable. Being a student helps :)

We're wanting a WPF developer to work on a blogging tool which will use the latest and greatest technology, while providing a practical user interface. We've been working many months on the project and we're looking for a WPF developer to join the ranks. We run a well oiled machine, with frequent team meetings. We use Sharepoint to collaborate, and Skype for conference calls.

As some may have noticed, the new channel 9 is up and running. Unfortunately it seems to be a bit dodgy and I was wondering if anybody could repro the following:

Really really slow
Unable to enter an underscore into the signin box - and thus I (Lloyd_Humph) can't sign in :@
When stuff does eventually load, the AJAXified stuff stops loading and nothing shows up, just a page with the basics and "Done" happily displayed in the bottom of IE7. There's even more limited functionality in FF3b5, but I can appreciate they can't make it work everywhere.

Spurred by my IRL friend Endaf joining here, I decided to make this thread. I don't think he's ever been part of a forum before (and after this, I'm going to phone him and ask) and he seems kinda muddled as to the do's-n-don'ts of forum behaviour. I also reckon he's got to appreciate this is quite an unusual crowd - geeks can be ruthless or nice, depends on the situation. I'm also gonna turn this into a blog post.

So, the do's and don'ts of forum posting...

- NO CAPS
- TAIP PR0P3RLY
- Keep into discussion
- Don't steal other peoples threads (thats what the Start New Discussion button is for :P)
- Be nice, courteous
- Keep coming back, every few minutes - I think the key to C9s success is the fact that people follow it religiously
- Don't pretend to know things you don't (guilty! first couple of posts on 9.. I wizened up once I realised they only got me in sticky situations and 9 was way out of my league when I first joined.. but it's fast-tracked me to success)

Any additions? This is basically a helper for anybody who's not been on a forum before.. because endaf doesn't know the do's, don'ts or must haves of forums... at all.

....and don't use too many extension ellipses :P

Any chance we can get a roadmap of things that will be added to DreamSpark over the next few months? I think in order to keep DS popular, it'll need pretty regular updates - even if they are little things.

This thread was basically sparked (geddit) cause Max said that Server 08 will be coming up - if he knows that, what else does he know? *poke* tell us!

Here's the latest Expression Blend tutorial. I posted it up on C9 last night, but completely forgot to push "post" here (I was checking it with friends, seeing if everything worked.. and it was late, so I hit post on C9 and shut down)

Anyways, here it is! And it goes much deeper into the workings of Blend - and we even get to use Visual Studio :O
So, pick these two up to learn how to create a small music/video player with controls!

What if... (people usually sigh when I say this)

we could find a way of earning Microsoft Points through the forums? Like, we could have competitons, or we could be ranked (like every 10 people that rank you as "useful" you'd get 50 MS points?) or something like that.

a) it'd bring quite a few people onto c8, but due to c8's expert-requiem, people who signed up just to get points would get... nowhere.

b) people who help benefit, and therefore want to help more

c) we get MS points, do I need to explain how much the new COD maps cost? 800 friggin points?!

This new tagging thing is a little silly, it wont let me have many of the tags relevant to my post (it rejected about 7 tags on my Expression thread).

I mean, what does "You do not have permission" mean? It's not like the tags are worthy of any specific "Owner"...

Can we have a little freedom around here??

Since I started with Continental 8 a few months back, we've been working on some interesting stuff. However, since I discovered I wouldn't be able to become an MSP properly, I kindof lost heart... but that heart is back I decided to do a few Expression Blend tutorials, as a way of keeping interest in the project up - because there are definately some interesting things to come.

So, I hope you enjoy my first part of what will probably be a 10-15 part series.

Oh, yeah, me :)

I'm going into graphic design - I've made $100! I couldn't be happier, so I've started a small business to cater for some small needs. I do logos and stuff, all in Corel Draw/Photo Paint - so if any of you guys need anything doing, just hit here.

So if you need anything, you know where to go (and no, it's not as far away as possible :)) I'll also do some websites if you're interested :) So spread the word, and help me get my business aloof!

Channel8 - it's like free advertising :D

Hi C8Team, or C9Team :P (since you're largely the same people behind the sites code etc.)

For those of you that read C9, there've been some wars going on reguarding Spam issues. Now, I'm not going to start another one here, but since we've had problems on C9, I think it's a good idea to implement one on C8 /now/ rather than when the spammers arrive - as we know they will, eventually. Be it next month, or next year - but we'll have a robust system in place.

I don't mean to nag, but I think it'll be easier on you guys if it's done now, properly, rather than rushed out like it was with C9s (which is somewhat flawed).

Josh, Donald and I have recently been recruited to make a new WPF tool, in order to become Microsoft Student Partners. Sound good?!?!

Well, we decided on what to do, and we've put up a little development blog in order for you lot to track our progress! So add us to your RSS, and expect a sweet new app to fly your way in the coming months. It'll take a while, remember, since we actually have to learn how to code in WPF, and learn Expression (which I finally got hold of!)

There are more ideas than there are on the site. We're keeping 2/3 ideas under wraps for the time being. But you wont be disappointed!

I was here for 10 minutes yesterday wondering why "New Thread" just refreshed. Then I realised I wasn't logged in. I wish it had thrown me a message box "You're not logged in" or something, since I wasted 10 minutes of my time :\

Also, the 24 hour cookie expiration is really starting to annoy me, can't we simple have a C9-esque "always logged in" cookie? I find it annoying that I have to log in every day.
