Meet Team Malta. They've created a very innovative collaborative education system using the MultiPoint SDK. Several students can learn together on a single computer at the same time, all having control of their own mouse. Each mouse cursor represents a student that can be tracked by a teacher sitting at her own computer. This is really great stuff. Check it out!

Meet Team Great Britain. These brainy britons have created a children's visual programming language environment targeted at 7 to 11 year olds (and when I say visual, I mean visual as in swimming fish and Visual Basic). Check this out!

Algorithm Competition Postmortem [Algorithm Competition Postmortem]

The Algorithm competition is arguably the most mentally grueling contest at the Imagine Cup. Students have 24 hours to solve 9 problems that span multiple disciplines, including art.

After the fact, I wanted to meet with some of the competitors to discuss their experience. My assumption was that they would want to talk about the individual problems they solved (or didn't solve), but this wasn't the case to my surprise. In fact, to these geniuses the hardest algorithm to solve in this type of competition is the time algorithm: How to manage 24 hours effectively - when to rest, how much time to spend on parts of a problem, when to give in, when to move, when to go back and try again (maybe after a little nap or another can of soda), etc.

We also discuss what they plan on doing then they "grow up". :)

Meet team Mexico! These big brains have created a system that students can use to aggregate all kinds of content via a handy uploader client via bluetooth or other means. Heck, let them explain it to you. They've used so many technologies I can't remember them all! One thing that caught my attention was how they've used Media Center ML on the XBox. Check this out!

Meet Team Nederlands (Netherlands). They have developed an icon-based language for children that spans all languages (since it's image-based, not word based, there is no reliance on real-team translation for communication and learning...). It's basically an instant messaging system where communication and learning is accomplished by passing around icons that are readily understood by children regardless of language spoken. Very cool! Tune in.

Meet Team Jamaica. They have created a great distributed collaborative education system that supports any number of languages, simultaneously! So, imagine a virtual classroom with students from around the world learning together in their own languages. Parts of their system include a real-time language translation service and shared notes. Team Poland have created a way to detect and even diagnose dyslexia using a very interesting embedded technology including headband (hardware plus software, of course...). It's best that you just watch this to learn about it. Excellent stuff!

Meet the Software Design team from Serbia. These guys have made a real-time 3-D driving simulation (automobile, car) environment complete with multiple projection capability (supporting 360 degrees of projection surface) and virtual driving instructor. Oh yeah, and their simulation environment will consist of half a car powered by 3 XBoxes. Huh? Check this out!

These students have created a very interesting palm scanning mechanism that can be used to identify individuals much like a classic finger print reader. However, their invention is far from classic.
