If you had organized a launch event at Heroes Community Launch, and received your Event Kit, then you are entitled for a free TechNet single user license subscription and not only that, you can pass on the invitation code to maximum 3 people and they too get it for free! (anybody have it already? I am looking for one :D )

Dyonas you will get another email in a few days that will allow you to link your ID number to a msn email. MS will also send you a technet membership card with that information to put somewhere. I took about 6 hours after I got the second email for me to get access to the downloads. All in all a few days...

Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd post this in here. I placed my order earlier for a TechNet Plus direct subscription but as it's the first time I've done this I have no idea how long it'll take. The order confirmation e-mail states ...
"Estimated Delivery Date if paid upfront (Not applicable to TechNet Plus Direct orders): May 30, 2008"
but as it says that doesn't apply to TechNet Plus direct orders. What sort of timeframe should I be looking at here, a few hours? A day? Longer? It's been almost 30 minutes now, I'm impatient :P

I know it's a pretty good deal considering all it contains Jered, unfortunately I'm not working right now and am at college studying towards an MCSA (4th exam completed out of 5 as of today) so as good as the value may be I don't have a great deal of income.

Basically the evaulation sitipulation is there to say that you cannot use these products in an productivity environment. You can see if certian schemas or products will work in your IT environment but you cannot allow people to use them as legit keys they are evaluation keys only. TechNet is more geared for IT people thus it does not have VS but it has all the OS's on it well most as well as most flavors. It has all the Office products, server products.
I think there is still a 40% coupon laying around from server2008 launch. But if not the price is not bad when you get that much to evaluate products on without a time bomb.

I've been looking around and while it's late I could've sworn I saw a 20% discount offer for TechNet Plus about 20 minutes ago but when I clicked the link from the main "How to Buy" page it had no discount of any sort or promotional code. I've since tried to find it again but all I come across is the £234 + Irish VAT standard price. Am I losing it or did I see it? The offer price was around £187, I'm going to keep looking for a little while because at that price I was seriously considering taking the money hit for the subscription.
While I'm on the topic, where did you buy your subscription TheContempt? I've looked at the price from Microsoft and even at £234 alone that's still £10 more expensive than via Amazon.co.uk which seems ridiculous. If I could get it for that or cheaper that'd be ideal, here's hoping for some future promotion linked with Dreamspark.

Ah ok, that clears it up completely thanks guys :) I would love to buy a subscription but currently even the cost of a renewal is more than I could afford. With a new subscription costing more than that I'll have to wait for the time being unless something magically happens like an offer for students as part of Dreamspark *hint hint*.

As Christian said, the software available from TechNet is essentailly the same as what's found on MSDN. It's full version software and not "Time-Bombed" as some other evaluation software. I've been a proud TechNet Plus subcriber for nearly a year now and I can tell you that we (as IT Professionals) coundn't do our jobs without it! I hope this helps and I certainly recommend you purchase a subscription ASAP.

I have the TechNet Plus subscription as part of the MVP program. It is basically the same software as in the MSDN package. I haven't seen it to be limited. The only thing I don't know is if the dev tools are also all available with TechNet Plus.
TechNet aims more into the direction of IT pros and IT administrators whereas MSDN is for devs.
I hope this helps you with your decision.

Since I'm working towards a career in IT with Microsoft Windows and Server products I've been considering purchasing a TechNet plus subscription for quite a few months now but there are a few things confusing me despite reading the FAQs so if anyone has one or can clarify the items below I'd appreciate it a lot. For the purposes of this post I'm talking about the Operating System subscriptions only.
MSDN are mainly aimed at developers whereas TechNet Plus seems to be aimed at people who test and deploy systems, perhaps administrators planning and testing a deployment. Would that be a fair description of the two?
TechNet Plus is evaluation but without time limits or restrictions, what I'm not sure about here is why label it as such? Is it not the same as MSDN software? You download it, burn to DVD (or use some other method, maybe network installation) and install then enter a product key. How is that any different or is it not different at all? The word evaluation can have different meanings depending on how Microsoft intend it, a bit like prizes with time limits (see my other thread if you don't know what I'm talking about).
Basically I'm just looking for some clarification on these points so if anyone can help it'd be appreciated :)
