Hi all, I was recentlly having a conversation with a friend, the crux of which can be explained here:

Mostly I buy MS press books. So my idea is, for MS to create something like an eBook reader requiring LiveID verification (to verify the LiveID is attatched to DreamSpark) then giving access to the full Microsoft Press Library.

Or, heavy discounts on MS press books, just paying for materials and S&H.

It would be nice if students were given these tech books for free/ discount, as we now have the software but not much else...

I have probably spen over $100 on Microsoft Press books this month, and now when I want to move on, I'm pretty much SOL because I can't keep shelling out this much $$ for books that aren't required for classes.

ISO to CD im stuck and mad

hi,
i have never had this problem before when making an ISO file to cd. i am trying to put dreamspark visual studio's onto a cd or dvd and i read the tutorial on here that says to download the program from Alex Fienman. I have used the program before but now i can't burn it because the file is to big and i have already wasted to many dvd's on this with other programs and none work. so please if anyone can point me to a different program or how to make it work so i can use it please do.
I am using:
Windows XP SP 2.

I have tried the programs i haven't tried an the others i get the same message its a txt file that states:
"This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."
I have no clue wat to do. I thought I downloaded it wrong so i redownloaded it and it gives me the same thing if i extract it or burn it to a dvd. i've used bout 6 dvd-rw's already and im gettin tired of waste them. so thank you guys who helps but if you can figure it out please tell me. that tutorial didn't answer my question bout that read me file.

Download Manager Fatal Error - Could not find requested file

Hi,

I am trying to download visual studio 2008 professional and 2005 studio but, when I click on the recommended download manager link it opens the popup, then rhw download manager then errors: -

Download Mnager Fatal Error
Could not find the requested file on the server.
Contact the author of the page that contains the link.
This download will be cancelled.

I have also tried the browser download but I only get to just over 600mb and then the download ends, ond about 2 - 300mb for 1 disk of VS2005 Pro.

What do I do now?

Installation problems with VS 2008

Help! I downloaded the iso file for VS 2008. I burned a copy of the file to a disk. The disk should be bootable to allow me to install the software however, that is not happening. When I insert the disk it reopens my recordnow software I used to create the disk. So I do I get this software installed. This is so crazy to me.

Visual Studio 2005 install Error 1305

I originally had another install of Visual Studio 2005 - I removed all but the SQL Server that was installed with it and installed VS 2008 offered here.

I decided to finally install XNA GS and it required VS2005 or C# Express.

I tried to install VS 2005 from the Channel8 download. I chose just C# and NET-related utils. I got to where it asked for Disk 2 (my original install long ago was on DVD) and it fails with this message:

Error 1305.Error reading from file f:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\GuiDebug\shortcutCLRDbg32.txt. Verift that the file exists and that you can access it.

I drilled down and the file exists:
Size is listed as "38 bytes (38 bytes)"

When I try to manually open it, Notepad gives:
Cannot open the F:....
Make sure a disk is in the drive you specified.

I then tried to reburn the cd, without exiting the install. I got the same problem. I then downloaded another copy of disk 2. Before burning yet another cd, I did a windiff of the 2 iso's and they diffed as identical. So I did not reburn.

Any idea what is going on? If it is a link - it isn't appearing to 'connect' to whatever it is. Perhaps something is not being installed since I have msvs2008 installed? I never installed this 2005 version download before but I assume it works or there would be many posts :)

After I finish my programming assignment I plan on trying to scrap the install of 2008 :( and redo it all starting with 2005 (just C# and then xna) then 2008 full.

Any other ideas?

I get an error every time I click Get Key. The error states:

I'm interested in Visual SourceSafe, and I thought it was included in Visual Studio, but after downloading it and starting its installation I verified it does not include any version-control software.

Can anyone let me know in what software package is SourceSafe included?

iso mounted but no drive letter (MC VS C++)

After downloading 100% of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 using their download manager ..
I've tried mounting the iso file with both MagicIso and virtual DAEMON manager. After I mount I don't see a c/d drive added under MyComputer in the file mgr, and I didn't get the installation setup window that normally pops up with install C/Ds. I tried changing drive letter in MagicISO (which was blank) but still nothing.. and the drive letter still shows as blank in MagicISO appear in I don't have a C/D writer so can't try burning.

Any help please .. anyone with similiar issues with MS VS C++
2005? Maybe I should try 2008 but I'm trying to stay as consistent as possible with the developer's setup in the example code I'm using.

VS2008.iso download problem

Hi,

I'm having trouble downloading VS2008.iso from the dreamspark website. I tried downloading the trial version from microsoft download and applying the product key that is generated, but it gave an invalid product key error and refuse to allow me to upgrade to the full VS2008 Professional.

I read on another thread that this is usual, since the VS2008.iso provided on the dreamspark website is different from the 90 days trial image file I download from microsoft download. And the product key generated should only work for the dreamspark version of VS2008.iso

The problem I'm facing now is that VS2008.iso always stop at 0 kb when I download from dreamspark site. Is there any advice or solution for this? Are there mirrors available for this image file?

how to open the Microsoft® Expression® Studio

I have done as the instructions say but I cant open the program it shill shows as a .iso and not able to be read. Please advise and see the instructions below that I followed to the letter.

How do I download and install the Microsoft software available on DreamSpark?
It should be quick and easy. The software download link on each DreamSpark software page allows you to download either an executable file or an ISO image file. Some Microsoft software on DreamSpark requires a license key (an activation key) to activate the software. If a license key is required, you’ll see a link for the license key download right next to the download link for the software bits on the software page. If you don’t see a license key download link, that means the license key is already embedded in the software and does not need to be downloaded separately. The download process for ISO images allows you to create a bootable disc that you can then install onto your computer in case the machine you downloaded with was not yours. Unlike an executable file, the downloadable ISO image must be placed onto a disc or virtual drive before installation can occur. In order to properly download software, you must choose one of the following two options: burn the ISO image to a CD/DVD disc or mount the ISO image.

Unjust Hating on the Office Ribbon

So, there is a lot of FUD going around with Microsoft lately, Vista sucks this, Vista sucks that...blah blah blah, but I've hardly heard anyone complain about Office 2007, until now. My school newspaper has some "tech journalist" who thinks Microsoft should have kept the old file menus...anyone want to email him and tell him why he is wrong, and how we can't be stuck in the past?

The last paragraph is what really gets me. It drives me nuts that people are so resistant to change, when I like that change. I think we should always push for it. I am just afraid with all the complaining done lately, that Microsoft will be more cautious and scared to try new things, I sure hope not.

Finally got VS2008 up and running. Do I need to keep the extracted files?

Hello all.

AFter a moderate amount of pain I was able to work through all my installation issues and now have VS2008 working. However, there are over 3G of files that I extracted from the downloaded archive, prior to running setup. Do I need to keep those--are they part of the runtime infrastructure? Or can I delete them now? 3.5G is a lot when your total disk size is only 68G.

Invalid Visual Studio 2008 Key

I downloaded VS2008 and burned a DVD from the image. I also got a key at the time of download. When I entered the key at installation, I received "invalid key" error message. I have double-checked the key, redownloaded and reburned the image twice to no avail. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks a bunch.
